One of the important pictures in the Parable of the Lost Sheep, one that everyone who heard Jesus would recognize, is his picture of a shepherd. The image of a shepherd is expressed throughout the Old Testament, the Scriptures Jesus knew and recited. Focus on the following readings from the Old Testament to discover the ways Jesus might have been influenced to tell the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Read the passage and then close your eyes and visualize the scene or setting. Remember a time when you felt lost. Visualize Jesus coming to you and leading you home.
