7-Looking ahead

Jesus pictured forgiveness in his parables, and his life was a model of forgiveness. We hear his words as he taught his disciples “Forgive us our debts” (Luke 11:4), and as he sought God’s forgiveness for those who persecuted him, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34).

Seeking forgiveness is more than saying, “I am sorry.” Asking to be forgiven means that one is willing to change, to be transformed into a new being, to repent and turn around by acting in a different way. To forgive someone is more than saying, “Forget it, that’s okay.” To forgive is to accept another person wholeheartedly, without any lingering resentment.
